"An Introduction to the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP)?" - a presentation by Edmonton author Gary Garrison
Introduction to the Alternatives to Violence Project by Gary Garrison, long-time AVP workshop facilitator. AVP is an all-volunteer organization offering prison and community workshops for facilitators and participants. The workshops offered by AVP are experiential (actively doing rather than listening or reading), and include sharing experiences and engaging in interactive exercises, games, and role-plays to explore alternative responses to injustice, prejudice, frustration, and anger, and ways to transform conflict. Gary's brief talk about AVP will be followed by a Q&A, and then an opportunity to try out some short AVP workshop exercises for those who are interested. Gary is the author of Human on the Inside, a memoir of his lived experience of volunteering with prisoners.
